Who We Are

BARIATRIC WISDOM was created by a partnership between Dr. Dana, Coach Sue, and Coach Mary. Each professional brings a unique skill set and experience level to the team.

Dr. Dana, PhD, MSN, NP, RN, PHN, CBN

Dana Schroeder is a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP). Working with bariatric patients is the great passion of her life. Her professional research is focused on weight loss surgery and how support groups improve long-term outlooks. But, to Dr. Dana bariatric surgery is more than academic.

She had gastric bypass surgery in 2001, and has maintained a 120 lbs. weight loss for 16 years. Dr. Dana is a Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) and has a PhD in Professional Coaching and Human Development.

She has served thousands of bariatric patients in pre-surgery settings, during hospital stays, and after surgery as a nurse educator and bariatric life and health coach.

Dr. Dana currently serves as the Bariatric Program Coordinator at Good Samaritan Hospital and as a Bariatric Research Nurse and Facilitator for Support Groups at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Dana is also an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation.

Dr. Dana brings a mix of academic rigor, deep professional experience, and a strong personal passion to Bariatric Wisdom.

Coach Sue, MA, BA, CLC, Bariatric Coach; CHT

Sue Lassetter is a bariatric educator, counselor, trainer, and coach. She is passionate about helping people reach their full potential and since 2003 has been deeply involved in the bariatric community.

Coach Sue helped establish the Good Samaritan Hospital support group, where she still continues to serve as a facilitator. With Dr. Dana, she co-founded Bariatric University—which is dedicated to bariatric education, coach training, and coaching resources. Coach Sue has coached more than 2,500 weight loss surgery graduates as a coach, speaker, advocate, and author.

Coach Sue started her own WLS journey in 2003. She has successfully maintained her 100 lb. weight loss for over 14 years.

Coach Sue brings client-focused coaching style to Bariatric Wisdom that includes “cut-to-it” validation and acceptance mixed with possibility-based invitations. Coach Sue will make you laugh and make you cry, all while working to help you experience your own personal “Jolt of Joy”.

Coach Mary, MA, BA, Bariatric Coach

Mary Tunison is a retired non-profit executive. For most of her career he was dedicated to helping organizations such as the San Francisco Food Bank, The Ronald McDonald House, The Alzheimer’s Association and the Parkinson’s Institute raise critical funding to support their missions and programs.

Coach Mary has a Master’s Degree in Communications and has spent her career learning what motivates people and helping people to overcome often self-imposed barriers to taking action.

She had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in 2001. She has successfully maintained her 175 lbs. weight loss. In 2010 she became the proud owner of a lap-band.

Coach Mary brings an informal, humorous approach to the Bariatric Wisdom. She is a champion of leveraging the internet to bring bariatric coaching to people with hectic lives who feel they don’t have time to travel back and forth to meetings. Coach Mary is direct and loves to challenge “typical think. She strives to help clients see things from a different perspective.
